Border crossings in the Southwest of illegal immigrants is down 40% last month indicating tough Trump talk may be working. Or there may be other factors like the Obama administration was working with Mexico to counter the driving factors of illegal immigration – to cut off smuggling networks and efforts to improve the economic and violence situations in Central America that many migrants are trying to flee – the long term approach.
There is no simplistic solution to illegal immigration.
The number of apprehensions and inadmissible individuals presenting at the border was 18,762 people in February. This does not count illegal entries.
In the past businesses and farmers needed the workers. It is still that way. And the illegals want to get in. If they can’t get trough at crossing points, they will have to pay a smuggler, or slip across at the river or bring a ladder.
We still need a comprehensive worker visa plan or businesses and farmers will need to pay smugglers more.
