I DO THE TIME

My wife wanted a big Victorian house to do a bed and breakfast. I wanted a cabin in the woods overlooking the Mississippi. We compromised. We saw the movie “I walk the Line” about Johnny Cash and my wife bought the soundtrack and played it 24/7. I got to thinking to the song, humming to the song and singing to the song. Thus The Song – “I DoThe Time” in honor of my wife, Dawn, and her Dream bed and breakfast.

“I DO THE TIME”

She wants a big house for a B and B.

I want a cabin… and to see the sea.

I made up plans… now do not be surprised.

Because she’s mine… “we” compromised!

*

Lent her a million for her BnB.

“If I help”…she says she can repay me.

Now do it all… no payments do I see.

Because she’s mine… I work for free!

*

I do the dirty dishes all the time.

I scrub the tubs and showers and de-lime.

I keep my eyes wide open for the grime.

Because she’s mine… I tow the line.

*

I mow the trails from morning until night.

Avoiding cleaning makes it a real delight.

I sweep the walk and porch with all my might.

Because she’s mine… I do not fight.

*

I greet the guests with smiles that are sublime.

I clean the toilets and what guests leave behind.

I mop the floors and work and do not whine.

Because she’s mine… not paid a dime.

*

I do the make-work that she thinks is fine.

I’ll do it all until I’m ninety-nine.

I do the work, although I did no crime.

Because she’s mine… I do the time!

MOST SUNG SONG…

My Marvelous Little Toy

When I was just a wee little lad,

Full of health and joy,

My father homeward came one night

And gave to me a toy.

A wonder to behold it was

With many colors bright

And the moment I laid eyes on it,

It became my heart’s delight.

Refrain:

It went zip when it moved and pop when it stopped,

Whirrr when it stood still

I never knew just what it was and I guess I never will.

The first time that I picked it up

I had a big surprise

Cause right on the bottom were two big buttons

That looked like big green eyes

I first pushed one and then the other,

Then I twisted it’s lid

And when I set it down again, here is what it did:

(refrain)

It first marched left, and then marched right

And then marched under a chair

And when I looked where it had gone

It wasn’t even there

I started to cry, but my daddy laughed

’cause he knew that I would find,

When I turned around my marvelous toy

Would be chugging from behind.

(refrain)

The years have gone by too quickly it seems,

I have my own little boy

And yesterday I gave to him

My marvelous little toy:

His eyes nearly popped right out of his head

And he gave a squeal of glee!

Neither one of us knows just what it is

But he loves it just like me!

It still goes… (refrain)

ANGELS AMOUNG US

NOTE: Now I believe there are wonderful people among us who are angelic in all they do. I do not believe there are angels with wings (like in “It’s A WonderfulLife”) that are among us, in heaven or on earth. There are angels who are beautiful, sophisticated, charming and sexy – men or women – on earth.

ALABAMA – ANGELS AMONG US

I was walking home from school on a cold winter day.

Took a shortcut through the woods, and I lost my way.

It was getting late, and I was scared and alone.

But then a kind old man took my hand and led me home.

Mama couldn’t see him, but he was standing there.

And I knew in my heart, he was the answer to my prayers.

Oh I believe there are angels among us. Sent down to us from somewhere up above.

They come to you and me in our darkest hours. To show us how to live, to teach us how to give.

To guide us with the light of love.

When life held troubled times, and had me down on my knees. There’s always been someone there

to come along and comfort me. A kind word from a stranger, to lend a helping hand. A pho

ne call from a friend, just to say Iunderstand. And ain’t it kind of funny that at the dark end of the road. Someone lights the way with just a single ray of hope.

Oh I believe there are angels among us. Sent down to us from somewhere up above.

They come to you and me in our darkest hours. To show us how to live, to teach us how to give.

To guide us with the light of love. They wear so many faces; show up in the strangest places.

To grace us with their mercy, in our time of need.

Oh I believe there areangels among us. Sent down to us from somewhere up above. They come to you and me in our darkest hours. To show us how to live, to teach us how to give. To guide us with the light of love. To guide us with thelight of love.

FAVORITE HYMN:

Amazing Grace Lyrics, John Newton (1725-1807), Stanza 6 anon.

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound, That saved a wretch like me.

I once was lost but now am found, Was blind, but now I see.

T’was Grace that taught my heart to fear. And Grace, my fears relieved.

How precious did that Grace appear, The hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils and snares, I have already come;

‘Tis Grace that brought me safe thus far, and Grace will lead me home.

The Lord has promised good to me. His word my hope secures.

He will my shield and portion be, As long as life endures.

Yea, when this flesh andheart shall fail, And mortal life shall cease,

I shall possess within the veil, A life of joy and peace.

When we’ve been here ten thousand years, Bright shining as the sun.

We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise, Than when we’ve first begun.

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound, That saved a wretch like me.

I once was lost but now am found, Was blind, but now I see.
