TRUMP ASKS INTELLIGENCE AGENCIES FOR EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT HIS TRAVEL BAN ~ T. Rump, Trump By Trump – 3/2017
President Trump has charged the Department of Homeland Security and Justice Department to build the legal case for its temporary travel ban on individuals from seven mostly muslim countries of Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.
Some intelligence officials see the charge as a politicization of intelligence and conclusion in search of evidence to support it after being blocked by the courts.
The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals’ concluded that the Trump administration “has pointed to no evidence that any alien from any of the countries named in the order has perpetrated a terrorist attack in the United States.”
Homeland Security’s in-house intelligence agency, the Office of Intelligence and Analysis offered a report that is at odds with the Trump administration’s view that blocking immigration from these seven countries strategically makes sense.
Some intelligence community officials resent the notion of the Trump White House seeking an intelligence report to fit the policy instead of the other way around, sources told CNN.
